Balvenie 14 Year Old Cuban Selection
Constructed as a sister distillery to Glenfiddich in 1892-93, it wasn't until 1973 that the first official Balvenie was bottled in its own right. Since then, the distillery has become known as an innovator in the whisky maturation process, with the Doublewood and Portwood expressions following on from The Balvenie Classic as probably the first ever cask finish whisky. The 14 Year Old Roasted Malt continued this innovative approach as the first Scotch whisky to be made from dark, roasted malt barley, as would usually be used to make stout
Balvenie is also known for its honeyed sweetness and malty notes, and produces a very lightly peated new make spirit to fill its casks
The distillery maintains its own cooperage and coppersmith facilities, as well as floor maltings which make up a percentage of the overall malt used
Balvenie's Tun releases are revered among collectors (especially the distillery only release Tun 1401 Batch 1), and Balvenie has also released a number of well matured malts, including a 1937 vintage 50 year old
